Manchester City have a new summer transfer target – Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria City have been alerted to the Argentina winger’s dispute with Real over a new contract. Di Maria, 24 on Tuesday, is unhappy with his £80,000-a-week deal at the Bernabeu – but the Spanish giants, currently leading La Liga, are reluctant to increase it. If Di Maria stays in Madrid, boss Jose Mourinho’s club would have to pay his former side Benfica an additional £10million next season, based on appearances. That’s on top of the original fee of £25m and Real are considering cashing in on him. Real claim they have already rejected an offer of £38m from Chelsea. The Di Maria situation has developed at a time when City manager Roberto Mancini has his scouts looking at wingers with pace. But even mega-rich City may look at the overall package as too expensive. www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/235036/Roberto-Mancini-focuses-on-Angel-di-Maria/

This could well be the start of the player's learning that clubs are no longer to be treated as cash cows.
