Slightly old report but; Is NDJ on his way out ? Manchester City are prepared to listen to offers for Nigel de Jong this summer, if they cannot reach a new contract deal with him. De Jong's failure to agree a deal worth more than £100,000 a week had left his future in some doubt, though he has since slipped down the pecking order to the extent that he could not even make the side at Wigan Athletic. De Jong's hard negotiating position on his contract reflected his own belief that he was one of City's key players but City are certainly in no hurry to return to the table with the Dutchman's agent, Rodger Linse, and their manager, Roberto Mancini, has not been pushing hard to see a new deal secured. The 27-year-old will not be sold this month, though his career at the Etihad Stadium does now appear to depend on his season beginning to take off. Otherwise, he could be another of the players signed under Mark Hughes' managership to find himself sold to finance a more creative midfielder who is more to Mancini's liking. After only eight Premier League starts this season, De Jong may have gambled and lost by holding out for a more lucrative offer last summer. www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/city-and-de-jong-may-part-ways-6291576.html

Gutted. De Jong is one of our best players. He has good feet, vision and is a good passer of the ball. I'll never understand why he was used sparingly in Yaya's absence, or why Barry gets picked ahead of him. De Jong is better IMHO!

Once he gets booked in a game then he quite often disappears as he doesn't want to give the ref's an opportunity to produce a red card as they seem to want to do against us. He's also not really fitting in with the style of play for this season as much as he did last. Barry has been pretty good for us this year and links the play between defence and attack really well. Although I'd be sorry to see NDJ leave, he's nowhere near as vital as he was last season.

Barry is good definitely, but I still think NDJ is better, even when on a yellow! Barry is just a little bit too niggly for my liking and gives away too many free kicks!

I'd really like him st stay and do the kind of thing for us that Vieira did last year. Come on late and close down games where we are in front. In addition with both him AND Barry (plus Vinnie K as back up) we'd have two (three) of the best defensive midfielders in the league.

i'd be disappointed to see him leave but if the reports are true that he's turned down £100k+ per week then i've lost a lot of respect for him.

I actually thought he was on more! Anyone reckon it's the agents playing silly buggers again?

It definitely has an agent's footprint on this one. You'd have thought he'd have learned from the Tevez affair.

You would think TDK, but that's how the agents make their money. So I'm wondering what is really going on and if NDJ could turn round to his agent and say, "Look, stop being such a Joorchabian, show me the deal already and stop trying to earn another pay day!"

After today's performance I can't see him going anywhere.

He was good against Blackburn. Showed his quick feet today and some beautifully perfectly timed challenges!
