FTG posted a bit of perspective before. I completely agree but i also completely understand that with progression come an increase in acceptable standard and that showing of awful attitude and a lack of determination was so far below that acceptable standard that i was actually embarrassed yesterday and in no uncertain terms would that type of effort levels for 65 minutes have been accepted of that division two side we put out, who you could have probably paid twice over with Yaya's weekly wage. That wasn't just an off day, that was 11 players who went out there with the attitude that we could roll over a top ten premiership team without even getting off of the training pitch. I wouldn't accept that kind of attitude in a City shirt 10-15 games ago when we were beating teams at a canter let alone the shocking dross they've put us through the last 6 games. In the Chelsea game it wasn't one player that dragged us off of our lackluster arse's it was the fucking fans, we were 90% responsible for that result because it was us that provoked them out of the slumber they was in. Although i am in no means calling for Mancini's head in any way, shape or form, this isn't the first time this season that that attitude has come out.
I can accept any form of shit performances, i went to every single home game of the aforementioned 10 goal stuart pearce season and stayed to the end of every game (as i always do) but what i will not accept is what i saw yesterday. Sunderland scored the 1st, only player handing a bollocking, the only one who didn't look like they'd just gotten out of bed, was Joe Hart. All of a sudden we were 1-1, through a penalty that wasn't (although there was one not given when turner wrestled Balotelli to the floor in the box only 2-3 minutes before) and it looked like we were going in at half time thoroughly undeserved 1-1. Did we? No, another went in. And again. The only player to react was joe hart.
The players got a light booing off in at half time, a hell of a lot better treatment than their lack of commitment deserved (barring joe hart). I expected them to come out with red raw arses after receiving the bollocking of a life-time that in no way was that lack of effort what happens when you pull on that shirt. On their return to the pitch after half time, they where well applauded. Was there a reaction? No. It looked like they'd been taken in, had a cuppa and strolled back out.
These players where given 2 and a half days off and thats how the repay that from Mancini.
I intentionally didn't post this yesterday, today I'm still disgusted with it. You've all probably got your owns views and maybe it seems like because the shit has hit the fan I'm panicking. But when the shit does hit the fan, you also find out which of your players have the strength in mind and character to drag you out, you can't just say 'oh they play well when they've got a bit of confidence', to win a title you need 9-10 players with that mental toughness and calming effect on the headless chicken types. IMO we've seen when the tough times have come, we have a few too many headless chicken. I think a couple of players are playing for their futures in these last 7 games because when our most 'experienced head' in yaya toure has a pop from 35 yards when we're inside the 3rd minute of injury time, 3-3 at home, when all but one player is beyond you and or in the box, questions need to be asked!
I can see why, even more than i could at the time, why Mancini wanted to bring in Seedorf in the summer just gone and it certainly would not surprise me if he goes for one of those types again this summer because those are the type of players who know how to stand up and be counted when it is need the most, not just when it's all going well.
IMO Mancini sees exactly what i wrong in terms of playing staff, he knew we needed an experienced head and he knew we needed a pacey winger that is versitile but predominantly goes down the outside of a man. He tried in Sanchez and Seedorf respectively. I have no doubt he's the man to carry on the excellent progress he's already overseen. The players were at fault yesterday and i don't think I'm the only on that thinks we've got a tough ground to go to, defending as poorly as we have done, to go out and show a damn sight more than we did yesterday.
Finally on the rant, why do we keep insisting Silva is fit enough to play? he's not! I thought that is why we bought Nasri, so we wouldn't rely so heavily on him.
