Andy Welsh has been moved on and Atillo Lombardo will take up the role of EDS manager in addition to his role within the first team for the coming season.
I think it's as smart a move as we could have made. If we are to start the process of getting our academy - first team conveyor belt in full swing again we need someone who has an idea of how Mancini operates and how he likes his players to operate. Having watched all of the pre-season training videos you can tell Mancini was getting a little frustrated with some of the playing habits of the youth players, hopefully Lombardo can cut some/most of them out. It's been a difficult last 3-4 years for the academy and it's staff trying to bridge the gap in quality created by the influx of world class players into the first team but hopefully we can start getting there and pushing a few players through.

I agree completely - it seems to me that Welsh definitely didn't coach and develop the players better than Alex Gibson had been doing and it always seemed as though the organisation had something lacking after the transfer o f Jim Cassels with Gibson to the Middle East.
