I've definitely changed my views on him as time has wore on, he has been a credit to the football club despite a few over-hyped bumps in the road.
Gary Cook was pivotal in;
- Selling the prospect of what could be at the club to Sheik Mansour
- The handover of the club from Thaksin to the Sheik
- His role to immediately create partnerships with reputable champions league clubs A.C. Milan and Barca, which has brought about a few great deals for the club. A.C. also let those involved in the training ground development have a tour of their excellent milano training ground and review the place to mirror some of the better things in our own and learn from their mistakes.
- He brought Umbro (owned by nike) to the table and since we've had the nicest set of kits i think we've ever had at the club.
- Club innovation has gone through the roof, we are the place thats trying to do things differently.
- He found and pushed for the hiring of the PR team responsible for the blue moon rising projection on night games (which will look awesome in the CL!) and the poster of Tevez that sparked such attention around the world.
- He listened to the supporters group that the match-day experience needed changing. Build-up needed to be closer to the ground and encourage people to get there earlier. - City square was born. This summer we asked for more competitive prices - they reduced the larger and cider by 30p.
- He was a major part in this innovative new sponsorship deal that not only included the sponsorship rights to the new training ground but also funded it.
- The partnership with EA which is going to really put us on a map with the Asian market because the more realistic the gaming experience the more they will buy into Manchester City and I'd be shocked if we didn't see a massive boost in shirt sales from Asia.
- The partnership with Mansion to improve our status in Asia with the possibility of them contributing to a Super Casino outside the ground.
And i think we'll see in years to come when see the bars and restaurants lining Joe Mercer Way it will leave the true representation of what he's done for the football club - He will certainly be missed! But like they've just said on SkySportsNews, who's not going to want the position of CEO at Manchester City?
