Martin Demichelis Close to Signing for Manchester City After Only One Month at Atletico Veteran Argentina defender could be on his way to Manchester City to reunite with Pellegrini. Reports from Spain suggest that veteran Argentine defender Martin Demichelis is close to signing a deal to join Manchester City. Demichelis only signed for Atletico Madrid one month ago, but he joined on a free transfer, and Atletico are willing to cash in on the defender. Manchester City are looking for more defensive options after their woeful display against Cardiff City, and Manuel Pellegrini could be willing to pay €5million for Demichelis. Pellegrini has coached Demichelis before when the pair were at Malaga, for whom the Argentine made 84 appearances and was a regular fixture at the heart of the Malaga defence. They also worked together at River Plate when the defender was a youngster. The 32-year-old would cover for the injured Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic.

Martin Demichelis Has Joined City From Atletico Madrid The 32-year old defender has signed a two-year contract and will wear the No.26 shirt this season. This will be the third occasion 37-times capped Argentina international has played under Manuel Pellegrini with the pair working together previously at both River Plate and Malaga. "I am delighted to have joined City because I am still hungry for success and want to improve," said Demichelis. "I have been in Europe for 11 years now and this was a great chance for me to play in the Premier League with such a big club. "When there is a change, there is always a process. There’s always a period of adjustment you have to go through. Moving from South America to Europe is a big change and you need some time to settle in because everything is new. "But in my case, I have lived in Europe for many years and I don’t think there’ll be any problems in adjusting to life here. Now I want to repay the manager's faith in me out on the pitch. I can't wait to get started." Demichelis left Malaga in the summer and signed for Atletico Madrid, but the chance to play for City proved too great to resist for a player who has a wealth of Champions League experience, mostly gained during a stay with Bayern Munich where he made more than 200 appearances between 2003 and 2010. During the course of this seven-year spell, Demichelis won four Bundesliga titles, four German cups and two German League cups. From the OS.............. Player Info............

I really think that this guy knows centre back play inside out - and he knows when to give the ball (OR THE OPPONENT) a bloody good kicking. For ma he'll be really good for Nastasic to learn from and I feel good make young 'Nasty' a world class player.

I'm a little pessimistic about this one. I think he'll struggle with the pace and intensity of the prem (he makes Lescott look like he can shift). Maybe his best use/games will come in the champions league.
The thing i like about it is at 32 he doesn't block off Rekik's route to the first team. He's had a great a start at PSV and if it continues he's got more than a good chance of being a squad player who gets significant game time next season.
